Awakening

Where is my cup of water,
the ice I crunch between my teeth
biting and chewing
cooling my mouth
my tongue absorbing the wet.

Where is my bed;
I’ve got to sleep
or I’ll wither away
and disappear
like all the little things I’ve lost.

Where is my chocolate,
my sweet darkness
my proper addiction
golden wrappers
floating to the ground.

Where is my love,
the arms that keep me warm,
the house of my dreams.
Where is my Lord
when nothing else will do.
